Founded by Simon Goh, owner of Sydney’s famous Chinta Ria restaurant, Monk & Me is an exciting, modern Malaysian restaurant which serves a menu of deliciously spicy traditional dishes including laksa, nasi goreng, chicken satay, coconut soup, honey-soy braised duck and char kway teow.

Tucked away in a small laneway in Hawthorn, the restaurant is always buzzing and carries traces of Goh’s signature style from the sophistication of jazz music to the subtle Zen décor, offering guests a spiritual gastronomic experience.

The name Monk & Me is based on a person’s spiritual journey from a caterpillar to a butterfly, metaphorically speaking. It represents something or someone of innocence and obscurity becoming something alluring yet peaceful.

Monk & Me is part of Malaysia Kitchen Australia. Fronted by Poh Ling Yeow of MasterChef fame, Malaysia Kitchen Australia is a celebration of Malaysian cuisine, the original fusion food, combining the best of Malay, Chinese and Indian cooking to create new flavours and dishes.
