Chef: Allen Woo
Founded by one of Melbourne’s top Malaysian culinary artists and former Ah Mu chef, Allen Woo, Laksa Me is a creative and contemporary Malaysian restaurant which serves a menu of exciting and exotic national dishes.
Fans of Woo’s work will be pleased to know that Laksa Me features the same unique blend of mouth-watering flavours, ranging from spicy chilli to fragrant lemongrass, which saw Ah Mu awarded the prestigious gong of best modern Asian restaurant by The Age Good Food Guide from 2001 to 2004.
The menu includes Woo’s famous siu mai dumplings with Malaysian crispy tofu, vegetarian triangle with wok-tossed shredded daikon, crunchy mung beans and Asian chives, folded and pan-fried in white pastry. His signature dish is tangy oyster shots, featuring Pacific oysters lightly cured in a nutty basil and sesame dressing. The restaurant has a friendly, understated vibe with dark red and eggplant feature walls, fresh flowers, tranquil jazz music and glazed concrete floors painted with Asian characters.
Allen Woo and Laksa Me are part of Malaysia Kitchen Australia. Fronted by Poh Ling Yeow of MasterChef fame, Malaysia Kitchen Australia is a celebration of Malaysian cuisine, the original fusion food, combining the best of Malay, Chinese and Indian cooking to create new flavours and dishes.
Don’t miss Laksa Me in the Malaysia Kitchen pop-up restaurant on Saturday, 17 November.
