POH LING YEOW

Poh Ling Yeow’s food career began in the first season of MasterChef Australia in 2009. As runner up in the finale, Poh thought she would return to a quiet life of painting and perhaps start a cottage industry supplying jams to her local green grocer. Instead, all of Poh’s food fantasies were realised when she was offered her own cooking show, Poh’s Kitchen, screened nationally on ABC1. Things took off from there.

In 2010, she fulfilled a lifelong dream of publishing a cookbook, Poh’s Kitchen – My Cooking Adventures, which stayed in the top 10 Australian bestsellers list for six weeks and sold a staggering 90,000 copies.

In 2011, she filmed a second season of Poh’s Kitchen and in 2012, kept up the hectic pace – competing in Channel Ten’s MasterChef AllStars after which her third series with ABC1 – Poh’s Kitchen Lends a Hand – began screening to rave reviews. She has a second cookbook due for release in 2013 along with exciting plans for a  new TV series later in the same year. And somehow she still finds time to paint!

Exhibiting prolifically since 2002, she has over 20 exhibitions under her belt, 10 of which have been solos. Her work appears in private and corporate collections in Australia and abroad, and she is currently working on an exhibition for the end of 2012 in Sydney.

Poh is the ambassador for Malaysia Kitchen Australia, a celebration of Malaysian cuisine, the original fusion food, combining the best of Malay, Chinese and Indian cooking to create new flavours and dishes.

Don’t miss Poh cooking up a storm on the Malaysia Kitchen Australia cultural and cooking demonstration stage on Saturday, 17 and Sunday, 18 November.
